Keizer resident opposes city council's action on statewide measure

Statesman Journal

I understand that the Keizer City Council is intending to pass a resolution opposing Measure 105 (which would repeal Oregon's sanctuary-state status).

I find it incredulous that the city council would assume the opinion of the entire citizenry of this city. Not long ago our state legislature assumed that the entire citizenry of the state was in favor of drivers licenses for illegal immigrants. How did that turn out? It was overturned through referendum by the people with a two-thirds "no" vote. .

I am a resident of Keizer, and I am absolutely in favor of Measure 105. I’m certain if you were to ask the residents of Kaiser how they feel, a majority would feel the same.

Remember, the Keizer state representative and senator are Republican. You were elected to a position to manage the administrative issues of a city, not become a political action committee on city time.

Measure 105 is a statewide issue. I don't pay property taxes to support opposition efforts to undermine my political views. If you want to run for the state legislature so you can get involved in issues that are statewide, be my guest.

Until then stick with what you were elected to do.
